the treasury secretary tim geithner. people came with a wall street. their biggest concern was protecting the banks, protect them if they saw. but they didn't have people sensitive to the issues. if you shovel hundreds of billions of dollars out for me you have real vulnerabilities to fraud. there says that will try to steal that money. they are not as attuned to complex adventures. we were cognizant of the fact he needed a degree of skepticism with people and institutions they were interacting. so our role and what the role of all ig should be as the voice of the taxpayer, to be the institutional concept of pushing back when money is pushed out with not enough strings attached whenever potential longer abilities to fraud but frankly if you have a career at goldman sachs coming your not really sensitive to when you push this money out. one of the things i saw was this presumption of goodness that these banks and executives would never, ever take advantage of the taxpayer by putting their profit interest over that of the public interest and i think our voices of skepticism to bring that ba

it to four years ago when tim geithner came in. geithner had been in the room prior to becoming treasury secretary when he was head of the new york federal reserve. they made the decision to let lehman brothers fail. he walked into a banking and a central bank global financial crisis, and he was a guy who had no learning curve. same thing here. we don't have a banking crisis, we don't have a central banking and financial crisis. we've got a budget crisis in washington. jack lew is steeped in the budget. he takes over from tim geithner right in the middle of this debt ceiling debate which will be followed immediately by the sequestration, the broad spending cuts debate. and then the fact that the u.s. has not had a federal budget since 2009. the so-called continuing resolutions which means nothing changes from the year before. that is central to the whole budget debate. if we actually had a budget in this country, we wouldn't have a debt ceiling debate. we wouldn't have a sequestration debate. jack lew takes over, he's got three things that are going to face him immediately which is why t

treasury secretary tim geithner said he figured out a way to keep the government defaulting on the debt for two months? not so fast. a new analysis by the bipartisan policy center says the u.s. may default a month earlier than expected. they say the government will likely run out of money to pay its bills between february 15th and march 1st. we hit the $16.4 trillion debt limit on december 31st. the treasury department said they were taking "extraordinary measures" to put off default. the debt ceiling debate is set to be the next big showdown in washington. both republicans and democrats have vowed to hold firm in their position. >>> and speaking of government spending, a report published monday says the obama administration spent $18 billion on immigration enforcement last year, more than on all the other federal law enforcement agencies combined and 15 times greater than immigration spending in 1986. the nonpartisan research group the migration policy institute says immigration has become the government's highest law enforcement priority. among those likely to be unhappy with that rep
